Getting Shorn

Post by alhal

After a few months of growth and a weekend at the beach, it was time for me to get a haircut. Now, I’ve always been a barbershop kind of guy, but since this summer is all about trying new things, I decided to book an appointment at a salon.

Off a recommendation from a friend, I took my scraggly ‘do to Cooney for Hair on Queen and Spadina. I was paired up with Yoshima, a very friendly stylist who was just starting up at Cooney. While the experience was much different than my regular haircuts given by an old Greek guy, it was nonetheless enjoyable.

5 things salons have (that barbershops don’t):
          - women
          - crazy tool belts with 80 different types of scissors
          - giggling
          - head massages
          - interior decorating

5 things barbershops have (that salons don’t):
          - cash only transactions
          - poorly tuned radios
          - newspapers
          - faded posters of haircuts from the ’70s
          - surly men

As my eye doctor used to say: “better, worse, or no difference?”
